Going Green for Drivers – How to Save Money and the Environment
More than 1.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide is discharged into the world’s atmosphere each year by the cars that we drive. According to the United Nations, “The transportation sector accounts for 30 percent of greenhouse fuel emissions in developed countries … and that share is rising.”

Save Money by Going Green

With the summer heat scorching more than ever, from New York to Tokyo, we can only do as much to protect ourselves and our surroundings from the potential dangers of global warming, which according to the survey recently published by the National Academy of Sciences based on 1,400 climate researchers worldwide, about 97% believe that global warming is caused by people. But before we are immobilized by our own fears and worries, there are still some “green” moves people can undertake to go green and save our money.
Using energy efficient bulbs is a surefire way to cut bills by 75%. New LEDs are cost-effective choices that cut 95% of energy consumption as they emit much softer light. Likewise, it would also be a good idea to decorate your house with energy-efficient appliances which are now being manufactured by many appliance companies to contribute efforts with the go green campaign. To spot energy-efficient appliances, look for those with EnergyStar seal from the Department of Energ— they use about 30% less power than those without the seal. Of course, it’s such a great sight to have a huge TV in your house’s living room, but the bad side is the bigger the screen you have the more power is consumed in operating it. Continue reading

Even US Labor Department Secretary, Hilda Solis, is quick to admit that green jobs are rapidly growing with the help of many business people who are looking at the potential of creating new green-technology enterprises or updating outmoded companies to 21st-century innovation centers. Wind farms, solar projects, and battery factories are seen to be the main players to have fared better than the traditional industries. “This is a sector poised for explosive growth. Governor Signs Green Energy Initiative
New Jersey has reached another milestone positioning itself as a leader in clean energy technology with the signing of the Offshore Wind Economic Development Act. In his commitment to strengthen NJ’s economy by promoting and utilizing energy initiatives, Gov. Chris Christie signed the Bill on Thursday. The legislation is expected to spur economic growth through renewable energy resources development and boosting green employment for the community.
The Offshore Wind Economic Development Act will also provide available financial assistance and green tax credits from existing programs for businesses with qualified wind projects. The bill will ensure that the establishment of offshore wind projects will benefit NJ both economically and environmentally. It will direct the Board of Public Utilities to develop an offshore renewable green certificate program requiring a percentage of electricity sold to come from wind energy. The percentage would be enhanced to support 1,100 megawatts enough to power 250,000 to 330,000 homes. Likewise, the law will authorize the Economic Development Authority to provide up to $100 million in tax credits for qualified wind energy facilities and associated equipment manufacturers and assembling facilitates to promote economic progress in the state.188

Senator Harry Reid Supports Nevada’s Growing Eco Sector
At Sand Harbor State Park, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid hosted the 2010 Lake Tahoe Summit the other day. Since 1997, Reid has always been instrumental in restoring the world famous Lake Tahoe. When he saw the lake’s critical environmental conditions, he immediately responded by hosting the first Tahoe Summit way back in 1997.
As a way of helping the people from Nevada and the Lake Tahoe, Reid authored and sponsored the Lake Tahoe Restoration Act. Through such act, a whopping $415 million was authorized for eight years. The funds were used for providing fuels reduction, environmental improvement program projects, storm water management and watershed restoration. Continue reading
