More and more educational institution offers environmental courses and clean-energy curriculum to welcome the growing interest of students to take up eco-friendly courses.
Thanks to an all out campaign of the Obama Administration in providing clean energy investments-more than $80 billion and green job generation. With the growing demands for green jobs, many groups are committed to greener living by providing training and opportunities across the nation to fully-equip the next generation to be part of environmentally-friendly industries.
From hands-on jobs like installation of solar panels, electric vehicles maintenance, fuel cell technology researchers, wind turbines manufacturing, US is keen on having a low-carbon, clean energy economy. Latest addition is the California Green Jobs Corp. which provides education and skills training to low-income youth to land them a green employment.
California Green Jobs Corp implements green program through funds received from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Their mission is to make the next generation environmentally aware and equipped with knowledge on how to qualify for high demand green jobs. ARRA provides exceptional level of funding to help stimulate the US economy through advancement of health care, expansion of unemployment benefits, education spending, infrastructure and development projects especially the energy sector.
A two-part training workshop was spearheaded by the North Central Counties Consortium thru Lake One-Stop, Inc. A combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training, the workshop aims to teach youth on energy-efficiency measures and alternative energy solutions. It was designed to give the youth knowledge and experience to gain employment skills in green business.
Hands-on training included a first hand experience on the use of a solar cooker and hydrogen powered toy car. It also showed proper insulation and piping for home to save energy and the use of dual flash converter to save up to 15,000 gallons of water annually. California is set to embrace green technology with the construction of large-scale renewable energy firms around the state. It has positioned itself to be the leader in world solar energy production.
In his effort to prepare the California youth to green lifestyle and green jobs, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger created the Green Job Corps. Believing in the importance of green living, he even inked an Executive Order in 2008, ordering an increase in California’s renewable energy standard to 33% by 2020.
