Supporting Clean Energy Efforts Averts Ecological Disasters and Creates Green Jobs
The figures had it that the United States is second to China in terms of carbon dioxide emissions. With many ecological disasters the US has recently become involved to, many American citizens have actively supported efforts reduce the nation’s dependency on non-renewable power source and look for alternative energy sources that are way cheaper and safer. The Pew Research Center Poll has revealed that 87 percent of Americans favor energy sources coming from solar and wind power.
In one of Progressive States Network’s Stateside Dispatches, it is shown that adding more renewable energy systems will help in decreasing the amount of carbon dioxide emitted in the atmosphere, produce more employment in the green sector, free up more power to energy providers to sell to consumers.
Increasing Green Job Creation to Support Growth of New Sustainable Economy
Although renewable power sector is a promising industry, it is also confronted with many challenges. Two of the challenges faced by this sector are the distance of the site where power is generated and the site where it will be used along with its intermittency or its inability to maintain the rate of the amount of power produced at a given time. Because most renewable energy production sources operate remotely transmission has become quite a challenge. The currently electrical lines proved to be not completely compatible or inefficient in delivering the energy to the end consumers. Also, wind and solar power does not provide a sustained power production rate so it’s pretty much impossible to remove our dependency on fossil fuels completely at this time.
The improvement of the current electrical infrastructure is seen to be the key to addressing the connectivity and capacity issues. Through an improved smart grid, transmission of electricity will become easy and make sure that the energy is used efficiently. This will also lessen the amount of carbon dioxide emissions and other greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere.

California versus Fannie and Freddie over clean energy stimulus
Fannie Mae ad Freddie Mac, mortgage finance companies have been taken to court by the California attorney general’s office. The lawsuit was filed on Wednesday, because they have disrupted a popular green financing program. This finance program permits homeowners to pay for energy efficiency improvements to their house, through a surcharge on their property.
The Federal Housing Finance Agency which supervises Fannie and Freddie, issued guidelines on Monday. These guidelines given to lenders limited a homeowner’s ability to take part in the finance program called PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy). From the stimulus funding support from the Obama Government, $159 million has been utilized by twenty two states that have authorized the programs. A lien is put on the home, when the city or state spends on energy efficiency upgrades through the program. The lien similar to other property tax assessments becomes more important then the home loan if the homeowner defaults. Continue reading
Toyota and Tesla’s Electric Vehicle Prototype Based on the Rav4
Various reports have been coming out regarding Toyota and Tesla’s Electric Vehicle (EV) collaboration. At Tesla’s newly acquired NUMMI plant in California, a joint Toyota-Tesla car is said to be in production. However, both companies have not given their comments regarding the matter.
Despite the two companies’ silence, Tesla spokeswoman Khobi Brooklyn verified that the company has already developed one test-ready electric vehicle which will be based on a Toyota platform. The EV is supposedly going to be presented to the public in 2011. Based on Bloomberg Business Week’s report, Tesla will be delivering test versions of the RAV4 and Lexus RX crossovers. Among these two, RAV4 has proven its effectiveness as an EV. Its EV experience is proof that the RAV4 mania is here to stay.
Indeed, Toyota has already proven that an EV innovation can work through their famous RAV4. The RAV4 EV became available to the public way back in 1997. Most of these cars were left on utility fleets, while 300 of these were leased to the public until its last year of production in 2003. Remaining RAV4 cars were never squashed and squeezed.
