Consumers Need Help in Identifying Energy Efficient Practices

The CFL light bulbsIf you think “turning off the lights” is one of the best ways to save energy, you may be wrong. But you are just like everyone out there; most people always say the same thing. So, here’s a survey that shows people’s misconceptions on the best ways to save energy.

Shahzeen Attari, one of the proponents of the study entitled, “Public Perceptions of Energy Consumption and Savings”, said turning off the lights is not a bad idea at all but it doesn’t have much impact when compared to swapping out bulbs for the more energy-efficient ones. Leaving energy-efficient lights on are actually effective. The Department of Energy affirms that the lifespan of compact fluorescents or CFLs is reduced when they’re regularly switched on and off. If you leave a room for less than 15 minutes, keeping a CFL on is truly more efficient; but if you’re gone for more than 15 minutes, it’s best to keep the lights off.
