Get a Home Energy Make Over and Save Money Immediately
There is one very simple, yet logical, reason why we often hear sectors telling us to make our home energy efficient, that is: to save on our monthly utility bills. Who doesn’t like that idea, after all? Times are hard, and people are always interested in finding out ways on how to save as much for other important expenses. This is also one of the reasons why some local government units are as happy to sponsor contests that would award homeowners with home energy makeover worth of cash to show everyone the benefits of remodeling our homes that would equate to energy efficient home living.
Take the case of one family in Virginia who won a free home energy makeover worth up to $10,000 in a regional contest sponsored in part by Loudoun County and WJLA-TV. The Lockett family was one of three winners chosen from nearly 3,000 entrants and will be receiving installation of solar panels at their home on Brookton Way. Loudoun County is involved in a wide range of efforts to reduce the county government’s energy consumption, improve energy efficiency and raise awareness about energy conservation. Continue reading

How to Beat the Summer Heat With Tips From an Eco Consultant
In 1978, there were only 23% of U.S housing units ho had central air-conditioning. In 1997, it had skyrocketed to 47%. In 2007, more than 52% Canadian households were equipped with air-conditioning devices. That’s in Canada alone. How much more could there be if we sum the percentages from the United States and the whole world as well?
To beat the summer heat, most Americans are making the most out of their air-conditioners. In fact, 84% of U.S. homes now are using air-conditioners. From this percentage, U.S. homes usually spend $375 or 17% of its annual energy bills on cooling systems.
Energy-Efficient Homes Need both Smart Design and Green Consultations
A home in Lake County, Florida shows just how smart design could make a home more energy-efficient. Paul Fallman, who shares a home in the town with his wife and two daughters, spends only an average of $180 a month for electric bill. What’s more impressive is his $25 bill for natural gas that powers his fireplace and two tankless water heaters.
As owner of Fallman Design & Construction, Fallman’s aim is to create a home that is able to manage the use of electricity as efficient as possible. He made use of a design that will make his home able to generate electricity during the winter months through solar power source but is shaded during months of intense heat. His design was made possible by making use of a solar-path study that analyzed the sun’s angle in the summer and winter months resulting to a design that effectively makes use of the sun’s power.
