“Carboholics” (Carbon-Loving) US & China are Unlikely Marriage for Energy Efficiency Project
The saying “two heads are better than one” comes to mind when trying to work through a particularly difficult crossword puzzle; but how universal is this old adage? Are say, two countries better than one? Our leadership seems to be hedging their bets towards the conclusion that this is in fact the case. In line with this spirit of collaboration comes the latest in a series of interesting (and sometimes unlikely) pairings in the environmental research and development field. Berkeley Lab has been chosen to lead a cooperative US-China project called the Clean Energy Resource Center (CERC).
The project was conceived in 2009, beginning with a meeting between United States President Barack Obama and President Hun Jintao of China. The meeting was held in Beijing to establish a basis for the cooperative effort, which will work to develop efficient energy-saving buildings and cost-effective / waste reducing construction processes in the next five years. It is a dubious mating for the more cynical among us, especially considering the United States’ seemingly uncontrollable construction fetish (for wastefully assembled “throwaway buildings” which are simply replaced every 10 or 15 years or whenever they go out of style) and China’s love for all things carbon (if you recall the vicious smog that threatened the health of Olympic Athletes during the Beijing Summer Games and the mysterious “air scrubbers” that the Chinese government was supposedly using to keep the rampant pollution under control). Green Branding Watch: Boeing, Apple, P&G and more
Globally, there has been no clear-cut definition of what ‘sustainable packaging’ really means. Most of the policies are geared towards waste reduction and recycling but nothing has given emphasis on sustainability. But Sustainable Packaging Alliance (SPA) believes that packaging will only be “sustainable” if it meets the four sustainability principles (from sustainablepack.org):
Effective – provide social and economic benefits;
Efficient – provide benefits by using materials, energy and water as efficiently as possible;
Cyclic - be recoverable through industrial or natural systems; and
Safe – non-polluting and non-toxic.
Interest in sustainability packaging has been growing. According to a New Report from the Global Industry Analysts, Inc, the global sustainable packaging market is expected to reach US$142.42 billion by 2015. From the looks of it, such 2015 projections will be possible or may even exceed the above-mentioned US$142.42 billion. You might wonder if it really is possible, so here are some reasons why:

Clinton Global Initiative Reveals High Hopes for Green Jobs
At the recent Clinton Global Initiative conference held in New York Last week, a variety of different topics were discussed. Among the hottest topics: Green Jobs and the growth of the green economy. The Clinton Global Initiative describes itself as:
“…a meeting of innovative, action-oriented, and socially responsible leaders in the world. The Clinton Global Initiative’s Annual Meeting brings together heads of state, government and business leaders, scholars, and NGO directors. Participants analyze pressing global challenges, discuss the most effective solutions, and build lasting partnerships that enable them to create positive social change.”
That being said, it should be encouraging that green development and the green economy were one topic that was on the tip of everyone’s tongue. According to leaders at the conference, the green sector is the shining light amidst an otherwise gloomy outlook.
Helping People Green Their Homes
Making one’s home environmentally friendly used to be Ed Begley Jr.s’ concern. But now, more and more people are jumping on the green bandwagon. Ed’s business has become everyone’s business as people are taking on ways to ensure that everything’s greener than ever.
There’ a million reasons why “going green” at home is essentially important. Captain Planet worked so hard to keep Planet Earth a good place to live in because what’s good for the planet is also good for us. Plus, saving money on utility costs is a really big help at times when the economy is at its lowest.

Going Green With an Eco Restaurant
If Mr. Sean Meenan’s not into speaking engagements about sustainability concepts, he’s nowhere else to be found except right at his very own Habana Outpost, his pride and joy – an ecologically conscious restaurant in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Recently, Mr. Meenan led a group of girls, ages 11 to 14, around his restaurant’s brightly colored outdoor patio. It was a great opportunity for Mr. Meenan to show his eco-restaurant’s solar panels, a rainwater-collection system that feeds the toilets, a recycling and composting station, wheat-board wall paneling, corn-based plastic cups and a bicycle-powered blender powered.
Aside from running his eco-restaurant, Mr. Meenan is an amazing spokesman for environmentalism. He goes from one speaking engagement to another so he could teach others about environmentalism. Through these speaking engagements, he tries his very best to let people see his point, so that just like him, people will go green and do something for the environment’s sake. Continue reading

In the said conference, he shared his valuable time and efforts as he spoke about the world of energy and of its future as well. Go Green When Remodeling Your Home
Since kitchen cabinets could account for almost half of the renovation budget, its important for homeowners to incorporate green elements in their kitchens by choosing a quality cabinet manufacturer who’s into environmental sustainability. KCMA’s Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP) can help in that. Companies will only get the ESP seal shown on their products if the certification requirements like product resource management, air quality, process resource management, and environmental stewardship and community relations are all met. For homeowners who want to set affordable eco friendly cabinets into their kitchen, ESP keeps the standard. Continue reading
