Cars Are Getting Cleaner, Faster
Taking a deep breath nowadays might just be a little bit healthier than it was just a few short years ago. It’s common knowledge that cars and transportation are a leading contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and other airborne pollutants. However, according to recent figures new cars today are cleaner than ever before. Of course most consumers expect that cars will get cleaner as time goes on; as part of the natural progression of technology and the demands of continuing legislation regulating vehicle emissions. What might come as a surprise is how quickly the change is happening.
Of course progress is most noticeable among the cleanest of the herd. Average carbon emission figures for the cleanest cars dropped by 21 per cent over the last four years. According to consumer information website Green-Car-Guide.com, cars in the low-emission group emitted an average of 102.8 grams of CO2 per kilometer driven for the 2010 model year (CO2 is considered to be the primary contributor to global warming). In 2006 the same group recorded an average emission of 131.1 g/km. The difference of28.3 g/km represents the 21 per cent drop.

Socially Responsible Business Opportunity
Global warming has been a big concern and it gets even worse over the years. A two percent reduction in carbon emissions every year for the next 40 years is needed in order to stabilize our climate. As the fight against global warming continues, more people are becoming involved when it comes to environmental issues.
Business owners have been starting to be involved in this fight too. It has been observed in most companies that are now socially responsible that they not only help our environment but they have also gained in their business too. Most consumers today are now concerned with how environmentally conscious a business is. Several things that a small business that wants to green a company can do to become socially responsible and makare:

Green Colleges and Universities Growing
With the start of the school year, we parents often question if our educational institutions offer a green curriculum for students. In this world where environmental concerns abound, one has to consider a school with sustainable initiatives programs for the student and the campus as a whole. The good news is, there is a way to find out which colleges and universities are giving their part in coming up with conscious steps towards environment protection and measures decreasing the effect of the global warming.
Sierra Magazine, a publication guiding people on environmentally friendly courses, places, etc., came up with the latest list of the “coolest schools” across the nation. The lists came from their survey with 11-page questionnaires about sustainability efforts and were distributed to 900 colleges and universities around US.

Green Homes and Greenbacks can be Intertwined
Nowadays, global warming is affecting every human being on Planet Earth. These are greatly caused by greenhouse emissions. Home builders have the capacity to change this devastating scenario but they don’t mention it much in their sales ads.
Home builders can do this by building green homes or those that use lesser energy. These are just a few changes such as: plugging air leaks in the building envelope so that the owner will not be heating or cooling the great outdoors; sealing the ducts that deliver heating and air conditioning with mastic glue instead of tape, which can disintegrate; installing better windows with a low-emissivity coating; and adding more insulation to basements, crawl spaces, walls and attics. Home builders can also do other changes such as increasing roof overhangs to shade windows in summer; building houses to minimize western exposures to the hot summer sun; and planting fast-growing shade trees after houses are built. US Senator Barbara Boxer who also chairs the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works has always been instrumental in the creation of clean energy jobs and as well as in brawling against global warming. She even joined Massachusetts Senator John Kerry in writing the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act of 2009 last year. It was a legislation geared towards minimizing America’s reliance on foreign oil, focusing on global warming, and establishing millions of clean energy jobs as well.
