GroundedPower Combines Home Energy Tech with Social Media Tools to Help Consumers Rein in Electricity Use
As the technology has become more accessible and cheaper, a number of companies have brought home energy displays to the market that are designed to help consumers track electricity use in their homes in real time. However, few of their offerings have been quite as promising as the new power management suite being released by Massachusetts based company GroundedPower.
Power monitoring devices have seen increased popularity recently as utility companies are making the transition to smartgrid configurations. Many power companies that are deploying smart grid technology have begun to supply power meters to their customers as a way of helping them to keep tabs on energy use. However the concern is that customers may not remain committed to using the monitors once the novelty of having the device wears off and they will fall back into old patterns. Continue reading
Helping People Green Their Homes
Making one’s home environmentally friendly used to be Ed Begley Jr.s’ concern. But now, more and more people are jumping on the green bandwagon. Ed’s business has become everyone’s business as people are taking on ways to ensure that everything’s greener than ever.
There’ a million reasons why “going green” at home is essentially important. Captain Planet worked so hard to keep Planet Earth a good place to live in because what’s good for the planet is also good for us. Plus, saving money on utility costs is a really big help at times when the economy is at its lowest.

Green Makeovers Making a Splash in the UK
To achieve 2050 green housing objectives, a Government adviser warns that UK requires 12,500 retrofits weekly.A big three million pound research project is going to focus on the task of refurbishing 12,500 homes weekly for the next 40 years. This is for the purpose of determining whether Britain’s cold and draughty houses could be improved by large scale produced building technologies. The research project will focus on the best way to start a nationwide green business program and is being supported by Energy Technology Institute (ETI) and consortium of businesses (e.g. building consultancy BRE, EDF energy firm, Peabody-Energy and property firm etc).
Based on Government figures, most of the UK’s 26 million homes will be still in use in 2050 which means that there is a need for large scale home energy efficiency improvement on the housing stock. If this is done then there is a possibility that the country can achieve its goal of curtailing carbon emissions by 80% by mid century. Continue reading

Green Homes and Greenbacks can be Intertwined
Nowadays, global warming is affecting every human being on Planet Earth. These are greatly caused by greenhouse emissions. Home builders have the capacity to change this devastating scenario but they don’t mention it much in their sales ads.
Home builders can do this by building green homes or those that use lesser energy. These are just a few changes such as: plugging air leaks in the building envelope so that the owner will not be heating or cooling the great outdoors; sealing the ducts that deliver heating and air conditioning with mastic glue instead of tape, which can disintegrate; installing better windows with a low-emissivity coating; and adding more insulation to basements, crawl spaces, walls and attics. Home builders can also do other changes such as increasing roof overhangs to shade windows in summer; building houses to minimize western exposures to the hot summer sun; and planting fast-growing shade trees after houses are built. The Zeeck’s Goes Green: an Inspiration for Homeowners
Companies, industries, hotels and others have embarked on the strategies geared towards a green economy. But mind you, they’re not the only ones. In fact, the Zeeck family has conducted their green home education and the results have far exceeded all expectations. Who are the Zeeck’s?
The Zeeck family green contributions started off with the father himself, Andy Zeeck. Being his brother’s partner in Dwellings, Inc. (a prestigious interior design studio that provides assistance in designing a new home, etc.), Zeeck is going green and as much as his customers wanted him to be. He says, “I’m not an evangelist. I don’t go around calling people on it”. Companies, industries, hotels and others have embarked on the strategies geared towards a green economy. But mind you, they’re not the only ones. The Federal Government has criticized the Creative Local Green Energy Finance
Financial experts at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac who accumulated loses in the billions of dollars in the housing sector have made a decision to obstruct a promising and innovative procedure to finance local green energy ventures. The federal agency has come down heavily on an energy and money-saving program, Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE), which indicates a clear opposition to green energy ventures.
PACE programs permit local governments to vend municipal bonds in order to raise capital which will then be lent to local homeowners for renewable energy projects. PACE helps the homeowners to retrofit their old homes for green energy in two ways; provides capital and the prospect that time taken to recover the energy cost savings from your investment could be more then the time taken to own your home.
