Helping People Green Their Homes
Making one’s home environmentally friendly used to be Ed Begley Jr.s’ concern. But now, more and more people are jumping on the green bandwagon. Ed’s business has become everyone’s business as people are taking on ways to ensure that everything’s greener than ever.
There’ a million reasons why “going green” at home is essentially important. Captain Planet worked so hard to keep Planet Earth a good place to live in because what’s good for the planet is also good for us. Plus, saving money on utility costs is a really big help at times when the economy is at its lowest.

Green Jobs Plan Coming to Fruition
As the earth heats up, most nations concede that it is one of the major challenges they are facing today. Realization sets in when in past years extreme weather occurrences were experienced globally and is still being felt nowadays. Some scientific studies showed that this erratic weather patterns are primarily from man-induced emissions like burning of fossil fuel, clearing of natural resources and incorrect agricultural practices. Be it man made or natural, something has to be done.
In order to alleviate the effects of this global phenomenon, more and more countries are doing their share by “going green”, by leading a more environmentally responsive and ecologically conscientious lifestyles and decisions. One of the programs being adapted by different countries recently is the introduction of green jobs to their employment agenda. Green investments take green jobs. Take for instance the United States which is investing on hundred billion of dollars to roll out energy efficient transport system, renewable energy and other measures. These investments are generating employment leading to green economic growth and sustainability. Green consulting opportunities provide better income at the same time preserving the natural environment leading to climate change arrest. Continue reading
Governor Brown Pushes Clean Energy Job Agenda
More and more political candidates are jumping on the bandwagon of “going green” by including environmental friendly plans into their platform pitching even far-reaching goals sometimes. One addition to these “eco-candidates” is Jerry Brown, a Democratic gubernatorial nominee who wants to create clean-energy jobs. Brown, a wizened political veteran was California’s Governor in 70s. He was actually one of the first politicians to promote renewable energy like solar and wind during his time. And now with the current “green trend,” his renewable energy goals are all the more applicable.
Brown is proposing to create 20,000 megawatts renewable electricity by 2020 and calls for placing solar panels on major thoroughfares across the state. A goal which other clean energy analyst say is unrealistic. By comparison, The California Solar Initiative aims to create 3,000 megawatts of solar produced by 2016. Continue reading

Green Jobs of the Future
The concept of the “green-job” is very important but it is very vague. Yes, technically it is defined as a job or business considered to be environmentally friendly and ecologically responsible. It is a profession on which you improve energy efficiency, use renewable energy and protecting the environment leading to economic sustainability. But how would you categorize a job if it is green or not? If I am working on a steel factory emitting carbon on which the steel produced will be used for wind mill and solar panels, am I considered a green worker? If I am working on an automobile factory doing conventional cars and at the same time assembling hybrid cars, where category do I fall? Continue reading
Green Jobs and Green Skills are Happening
China has already reinforced intensive spending of hundred billion dollar stimulus package on green products and services. Japan on the other hand is offering zero-interest loans for environmentally friendly projects and programs. Europe is not to be left behind as renewable energy firms employ around 400,000 green workers and this figure is still rising. Ready to face the challenge is Australia. However, a lot has to be done to be able to position itself to be one of the leading “green-market” providers globally. Going green is an opportunity for Australia to have a sustainable future while rebuilding its economy.

Training Californians for Sustainable Jobs
As America continues to realize the benefits of a green economy, more and more people are getting interested in it. A green economy takes on six main sectors, such as renewable energy, green buildings, clean transportation, water management, waste management and land management. Because of its varying advantages, many have participated in different programs, availed of green products/services and others have taken on green collar jobs.
To ensure that people are ready to work on green collar jobs, the San Bernardino County Workforce Investment Board and CleanEdison Inc. will start on a free, green job training program. Geared towards helping dislocated country residents, this program is made possible through the utilization of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009’s grant money. Other than ensuring the residents’ readiness on their jobs, the said program is also intended for motivating the regional economy as well as to enhance their skills.Sandy Harmsen, Director of Workforce Development in San Bernardino County., said “This program will provide crucial training to traditionally under-served community members, as well as retrain incumbent workers seeking to upgrade their skills.” Furthermore, he believes that the program is really beneficial for both the workers and the energy efficiency sector. “This initiative will help develop a skilled green workforce and provide career advancement and job security to workers, while helping to meet demand in the growing energy efficiency sector.”

“Blue Green Tour” Set to Travel Country Promoting Green Collar Employment and Legislation

From now until September, a group of labor unions and environmental organizations is beginning a national bus tour dubbed “The Job’s Not Done Tour.” The group plans to visit 17 states and make 30 stops beginning in California and passing through, Nevada, Missouri, Arkansas, and Michigan on the way to Richmond, Virginia. The tour is being staffed by workers in the clean energy sector, also known as green collar workers.
Blue-Green Alliance Executive Director David Foster told reporters on a press conference call the tour will work to promote green collar employment as well as renewable and alternative energy production. The program will also highlight the relationship between the ongoing economic crisis and the need to pass climate change and clean energy jobs legislation.
Communication Workers of America President Larry Cohen highlighted the importance of creating new green collar jobs in the high-tech sector and the need for the government to make a serious commitment to modernize America’s green economy.

The global trend these days is generating green jobs. More and more countries are claiming to have included green jobs on their employment plans. Political candidates even brag about their platform on having programs to create green jobs. The term green-jobs is fast becoming a “by-word” for everyone, but do they really know what green jobs mean? Do they know what classification is needed for a job to be branded as green?
The drive towards green jobs and green skills has taken its toll on every nation. More and more countries are doing their share to level up with the current trend in generating green jobs and green skills. Previously, the Obama administration has announced that US is investing on hundred billion dollars to roll out green projects and measures, other countries are planning to follow suit.
Dr. Tony Zeiss, President of the Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC), said “The College has become the gateway for thousands of students who want to enhance their skills, explore new careers, or seek a degree or certification.” Furthermore, he said, “the college prides itself on ensuring that we are inclusive and accessible by reducing financial, environmental, social, and educational barriers to all members of our community as they pursue their diverse goals”. Thus, the college is not only geared towards academics but even beyond the college building as it looks into other aspects.
