Mobile Phone Manufacturing is Getting Greener

green apps on mobile phonesWhen asked to name one thing that they can’t live without, many people have the same answer: my mobile phone. Mobile phones have become more than just useful gadgets these days. Plain and simple, make our lives easier. From making a last minute call for pizza or working on the go, to engaging yourself in a social media network or sending that last-minute email from the train, mobile phones are part of our lives. And because many people find it important to own a mobile phone, reports have indicated that in 2009, mobile phone ownership exceeded 1 billion units. And of course just like anything else, increasing mobile phone use and manufacturing has had environmental impacts.

Of course making phone calls through our mobile phones uses electricity, which contributes to the production of carbon dioxide (CO2). This is the chemical largely responsible for global warming. So just like any other appliance, the more hours you spend making a phone call using your mobile phone adds up to the amount of CO2 added in the atmosphere. Continue reading

Showroom for Green Mobile Phones

recycling mobile phonesSeen any mobile truck that’s colored like that of the chlorophyll? Nope, it’s not a running leaf-designed truck but it’s something that’s green living related. Yes, I’m referring to bGreen Mobile Showroom. Just this week, the mobile showroom was used during a test drive in Boston City Plaza during the GreenFest. Interestingly, the bGreen Mobile Showroom is pegged at $50,000 capital including the creation of a website perfectly designed to promote the said showroom and its purpose.

The bGreen Mobile Showroom is a pet design of Barry Greenstein and Lee Schneider. Its design is patterned after the FedEx truck and uses unleaded gas. But products do this bGreen Mobile Showroom delivers? Environmental friendly products are usually made of recycled materials. With the tons of plastics piled up in the landfills, recycling seems to be the best option for now. Besides, there’s so much work to be done in terms of recycling stuffs including that of your old mobile phones. So inside this bGreen Mobile Showroom are recycled plastic water bottles, environmental-friendly kitchen cleaners and toys from plastics all in all.
