Supporting Clean Energy Efforts Averts Ecological Disasters and Creates Green Jobs

Wind Turbines in the Middle of a FarmThe figures had it that the United States is second to China in terms of carbon dioxide emissions. With many ecological disasters the US has recently become involved to, many American citizens have actively supported efforts reduce the nation’s dependency on non-renewable power source and look for alternative energy sources that are way cheaper and safer. The Pew Research Center Poll has revealed that 87 percent of Americans favor energy sources coming from solar and wind power.

In one of Progressive States Network’s Stateside Dispatches, it is shown that adding more renewable energy systems will help in decreasing the amount of carbon dioxide emitted in the atmosphere, produce more employment in the green sector, free up more power to energy providers to sell to consumers.

Increasing Green Job Creation to Support Growth of New Sustainable Economy

Scientists challenged by power transmission and reliability issues from renewable power sourcesAlthough renewable power sector is a promising industry, it is also confronted with many challenges. Two of the challenges faced by this sector are the distance of the site where power is generated and the site where it will be used along with its intermittency or its inability to maintain the rate of the amount of power produced at a given time. Because most renewable energy production sources operate remotely transmission has become quite a challenge. The currently electrical lines proved to be not completely compatible or inefficient in delivering the energy to the end consumers. Also, wind and solar power does not provide a sustained power production rate so it’s pretty much impossible to remove our dependency on fossil fuels completely at this time.

The improvement of the current electrical infrastructure is seen to be the key to addressing the connectivity and capacity issues. Through an improved smart grid, transmission of electricity will become easy and make sure that the energy is used efficiently. This will also lessen the amount of carbon dioxide emissions and other greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere.

GE to Pledge $200 Million Investment on Power Grid Technology

General Electric to turn the tide of sustainable energy sourceGE and its partners are launching yet another project to increase Power Grid Technology by working together with key industries that are interested in renewable energy. Some of the key players are Emerald Technology Ventures, RockPort Capital, Foundation Capital, Kleiner Perkins, and Caufield & Byers. Jeff Immelt, GE Chairman and CEO, said that GE is putting $200 million in capital investment to fund ideas that will pave the way for the creation of technologies that will support energy generation in renewable energy sector.

The challenge entitled “GE ecomagination Challenge: Powering the Grid” aims to attract scientists, businessmen, newbies and old ones to collaborate and share their insight to create the next generation power system that will help the demands of people of the current century. Immelt believes that pushing innovation at the heart of scientists and investors and policy makers will accelerate efforts to improve how we use energy and the way we generate it. The company is seeking qualified partners that will join their ranks in discovering new ways to power up the grid to create a cleaner energy source that will be used in the future. Continue reading
