STRATEGIES FOR A GREENER ECONOMY
Today, environmental concerns have grown and the people, companies and industries have realized that these are actually beneficial to them. So, many are already banking on the green economy. In the same way, Maryland has recognized its benefits and is also doing what the others are embarking on.
Governor Martin O’Malley is hoping to create or maintain 100,000 green jobs by 2015. Additionally, he also hopes that the state will rely more on wind power and solar energy; improve its public transportation and prop up high-density development around transit hubs. So, he asked the Department of Business and Economic Development to form the Green Jobs and Industry Task Force. Upon Governor O’Malley’s mandate, Christian Johansson, Secretary of the Department of Business and Economic Development, convened 31 Marylanders who are at the same time realizing the benefits of a greener Maryland economy. Arizona and Switzerland Promotes Renewable Energy Resources
Solar Impulse’s Chief Executive Officer and pilot André Borschberg experienced fatigue all over his body when he successfully landed after a 24 hour test flight of a solar-powered plane. Borschberg took off on the 7th of July 2010 and landed the next day on the 8th of July as the sun rose up. As an experimental aircraft, the plane’s solar panels were covered with 207-foot wingspan and batteries that stored the energy.
“The goal of the project is to have a solar-powered plane flying day and night without fuel,” says the team co-founder and a record-breaking balloonist, Bernard Piccard. As the plane flies through the air, it has to gather up energy from the sun so it can continually fly through the night. Indeed, the plane’s risky venture was a huge success!
