Supporting Clean Energy Efforts Averts Ecological Disasters and Creates Green Jobs

With many ecological disasters the US has recently become involved to, many American citizens have actively supported efforts reduce the nation’s dependency on non-renewable power source and look for alternative energy sources that are way cheaper and safer. The Pew Research Center Poll has revealed that 87 percent of Americans favor energy sources coming from solar and wind power.

In one of Progressive States Network’s Stateside Dispatches, it is shown that adding more renewable energy systems will help in decreasing the amount of carbon dioxide emitted in the atmosphere, produce more employment in the green sector, free up more power to energy providers to sell to consumers.

Green Jobs and Renewable Energy

Renewable Energy Sector Steadily Provides More Jobs Renewable energy industry has proven its potential to create jobs. Under current policies, the European Union could create sizeable number of jobs: 950,000 direct and indirect full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs and increase to 1.4 million in the next decade. The biggest growth is anticipated to come from job creation in the consumer and small business sectors as homeowners focus on green lifestyles in order to enhance home energy efficiency, health, comfort and sustainability. Green home and small business green inspections are expected to grow exponentially over the next decade fueling the demand for educated green inspectors.

The European Union’s Advanced Renewable Strategy can potentially create 1.7 million jobs in 2010 which will almost double at 2.5 million in the next decade. It is projected that 60 to 70 percent of jobs will be filled in the renewable energy sector. European Renewable Energy Council (EREC) stated that if renewable energy share on European Union’s overall energy consumption is augmented, the number of jobs in this sector will inevitably rise to more than 2 million.
